MALAYSIAN NATIONAL PASSES AWAY WHILE CLIMBING MOUNT ELBRUS,
RUSSIAN FEDERATION
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Malaysia in Moscow, Russian Federation, confirms that a Malaysian national passed away on 11 July 2026 while climbing Mount Elbrus in the Russian Federation.
The deceased was part of a group of three (3) Malaysian nationals participating in a Mount Elbrus climbing expedition organised by a local operator. The Embassy of Malaysia in Moscow has established contact with the deceased's family in Malaysia, as well as the two (2) other Malaysians who participated in the expedition, to coordinate all necessary arrangements and provide the appropriate consular assistance to the family.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Malaysia in Moscow, will continue to remain in contact with the relevant authorities in the Russian Federation and monitor developments in this case, while providing the necessary consular assistance to ensure that all related arrangements are carried out smoothly.
The Ministry also extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
