Gilbert, Ariz. - On June 11, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM, Gilbert Police Officers were dispatched to a welfare check call for service near Lindsay and Guadalupe Roads in Gilbert. It was reported that a male motorist was slumped over behind the wheel of a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of Guadalupe Road.
When officers arrived, they encountered a single male occupant slumped over in the driver's seat and attempted to contact him. The officers knocked on the window, waking the driver who acknowledged the officers. The officers asked the driver to exit the vehicle when moments later, at about 6:04 PM, the driver presented a firearm, posing an immediate threat to the officers. Officers responded to the threat by firing their duty weapons.
The male subject was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
This was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public. There were two Gilbert officers involved in the shooting, and no officers sustained any injuries. There were no other injuries reported.
This will be an East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT) investigation with the Mesa Police Department as the primary investigating agency.

About EVCIRT:
Effective July 1, 2024, eight police agencies across the East Valley will use the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT) to investigate any critical force incident that occurs within the jurisdiction of participating agencies. The East Valley Critical Incident Response Team includes members from Apache Junction, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Paradise Valley, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, and Tempe Police Departments. Detectives from Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, or Tempe will be the primary investigators, with Apache Junction, Paradise Valley, and Queen Creek assisting in secondary roles.
