By AUKUS Integration & Acquisition Public Affairs

WASHINGTON - Rear Adm. Douglas Adams assumed leadership of the AUKUS Integration and Acquisition (I&A) Direct Reporting Program Management Office Feb. 9.

"I am honored to take the helm of the AUKUS I&A team," said Adams. "Our submarines are the most capable in the world, and increasing the number of allied fast-attack submarines in the Indo-Pacific region is the definition of peace through strength."

In addition to his role as AUKUS I&A Director, Adams will continue to serve as Program Executive Officer for Undersea Warfare Systems.

The AUKUS I&A program office, within the Department of the Navy, is responsible for executing the trilateral partnership to help Australia acquire conventionally armed, nuclear-powered attack submarines while setting the highest nuclear stewardship standards and continuing to maintain the highest nonproliferation standard

A native of Valparaiso, Indiana, Adams enlisted in the Navy in 1987 and advanced to the rank of electrician's mate first class prior to his commissioning through Officer Candidate School. During his career, he served onboard one ballistic missile and two fast-attack submarines prior to assuming command of USS Rhode Island (Blue) (SSBN 740). Adams has served in the Virginia-class submarine program office (PMS 450), as major program manager for undersea systems (IWS 5), and as major program manager for maritime surveillance systems (PMS 485).

Rear Adm. Richard Seif, the former director of AUKUS I&A, has been confirmed to the rank of Vice Adm., and will assume command of Submarine Force Atlantic and Allied Submarine Command in Norfolk, VA.

"I want to acknowledge the substantial contributions of Rear Adm. Seif to the AUKUS mission," said Adams. "His leadership and commitment to the program have driven the continued success of this important initiative."
