Call for Artists: Public Art Display & Mural Design Opportunities in Deerfield

The Village of Deerfield's Fine Arts Commission (FAC) is seeking creative submissions from artists for two exciting public art opportunities in 2025, including a brand-new mural installation on the east-facing wall of the AT&T building on Deerfield Road. Both initiatives aim to highlight creative talent, enhance public spaces and connect the community through art.

Public Art Display Program

The FAC is seeking loaned works of art for public display in Village-owned buildings and public spaces for up to one year. Selected works may be displayed at Village Hall, Public Works, Deerfield Park District facilities, the Deerfield Public Library and the sculpture park at Waukegan and Deerfield Roads.

Eligibility & Criteria:

• Open to professional visual artists and serious art students
• Artists working in any permanent medium will be considered
• Artists must be knowledgeable about public art practices and suitable materials
• All artwork must be appropriate for public display in scale, content, and durability
• Selected pieces must be delivered ready to hang

Artists may submit up to three works for consideration. A separate application is required for each submission.

Mural Design Proposal

The FAC is also seeking proposals for a digitally designed mural to be printed and installed on the east-facing wall of the AT&T building on Deerfield Road. The selected design will be featured for one year.

Project Details:

• Location: AT&T building east-facing brick wall
• Dimensions: 10 feet high by 20 feet long
• Artists must be at least 14 years old
• Selected artists will receive a $200 honorarium
• All designs must be submitted in a digital format suitable for large-scale printing
• Artists retain full rights to their designs
• Production and installation will be covered by the Village

Submittal Requirements:

• Name, address, phone, and email
• Artist statement and design overview
• Digital file of original design (must be original digital art; no AI accepted)
• Statement explaining the artist's connection to the Village of Deerfield

Artists may submit up to three designs. Only online submissions will be accepted.

Call for proposals opens: May 2, 2025
Submission deadline: May 31, 2025
Presentation and final selection: June 2025
Mural installation and dedication: Late June 2025
