In Ely, Rosen Inaugurates U.S. 50 Highway Renovation, Hosts Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, Attends Horse Races

ELY, NV - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) recently joined City of Ely and Nevada Department of Transportation officials to celebrate the completion of renovations to U.S. 50. In 2023, Senator Rosen helped secure more than $24 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Rebuilding American Infrastructure and Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program for this project. She also helped secure millions more in federal funding to support improvements in Ely.

"One of the most important aspects of my job as a United States Senator is making sure Nevada gets the federal funding we need to improve our communities and help families in every corner of our state thrive. That's why I was proud to work with my good friend Mayor Robertson to secure millions of dollars in federal funding to make the U.S. 50 project - and the renovations in downtown Ely - possible," said Senator Rosen. "U.S. 50 is a critical gateway for downtown Ely, bringing visitors all the way from Carson City and supporting the local economy. That's why this project is critical for the resilience of downtown Ely and the surrounding small businesses, and I'm proud to have been present to inaugurate it."

"I am proud of the engineering and construction teams who not only made this project come to life, but retained the historic charm that defines downtown Ely. Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Roundtable

While in Ely, Senator Rosen also hosted a discussion with outdoor recreation and tourism leaders about recent accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and challenges. Outdoor recreation is essential to Nevada's economy, generating significant economic activity and tax revenue across the state and providing an opportunity for rural communities like Ely to diversify their economies and attract visitors, businesses, and new residents.

Ely Volunteer Fire Department BBQ

Senator Rosen then attended the Ely Volunteer Fire Department Barbecue, where she thanked the volunteer firefighters in Ely and surrounding areas, and she served food alongside them and Mayor Nathan Robertson. The City of Ely Volunteer Fire Department is a community-based organization that provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue & extrication, hazardous materials response, education, and fire code inspections.

Ely Horse Races

Senator Rosen also attended the White Pine County Fair and Horse Races. Created in 1937, the fair and races are White Pine's most popular annual tourism event, drawing thousands of visitors from across the West.

Headframe Coffee

Senator Rosen also made a stop at Headframe Coffee. Senator Rosen is a strong supporter of Nevada's small businesses, introducing legislation to lower costs and remove the barrier to entry for small businesses. This includes a bill she joined to protect small businesses from tariffs and the introduction of a bipartisan bill to help small businesses hire more workers.

Senator Rosen has been a fighter for all of Nevada's communities, including in rural areas. She has made it one of her priorities in the Senate to secure federal funding for essential projects all across the state. Last year, she secured more than $623 million in federal funding for Nevada. Already this year, she has secured millions for Nevada's housing, airports, and rural communities.
