Gov. Kemp Signs Rep. Ridley’s Education Accountability Bill for Cherokee Schools

ATLANTA - Governor Brian Kemp recently signed State Representative Jordan Ridley's (R-Woodstock) legislation, House Bill 845, into law, to establish the role of an internal auditor for the Cherokee County Board of Education.

"I'm deeply appreciate of Governor Kemp's leadership in signing HB 845 into law," said Rep. Ridley. "This legislation represents a critical step toward greater transparency and accountability in education spending. Georgia's taxpayers deserve to know how their dollars are being used, and our students deserve learning environments that reflect those investments. I'm especially proud that Cherokee County will be at the forefront of this initiative."

Under HB 845, the auditor is required to be a certified internal auditor or certified public accountant with at least five years of experience and nominated by members of the Georgia General Assembly who represent all of parts of the school district. They will have access to all school system records necessary for audits and conduct one and five-year performance and financial audits of the school system.

The full text of the bill may be found here.

Representative Jordan Ridley represents the citizens of District 22, which includes portions of Cherokee and Cobb counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Code Revision Committee and as Secretary of the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications Committee. He also serves on the Game, Fish & Parks and Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
