WASHINGTON, D.C. - The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials today praised the Senate confirmation of Sean McMaster to lead the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
"This is an incredibly important time for transportation as we look toward reauthorizing the federal surface transportation programs in the next year, and Sean McMaster carries the experience and the resolve to help make this happen," said AASHTO Executive Director Jim Tymon. "Sean's previous roles have equipped him with extensive experience as well as a solid understanding of FHWA's crucial partnership with state departments of transportation. This long-standing federal-state partnership-supported by stable, formula-based funding to state DOTs-remains key to achieving the safety, mobility, and innovation goals of the U.S. Department of Transportation. With Sean's leadership at FHWA, AASHTO and its members look forward to building upon that partnership and working together to strengthen communities across the country and our economy for decades to come."
McMaster previously served as the deputy chief of staff and deputy assistant secretary for congressional affairs at the U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as professional staff for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. His career also spans roles as senior policy advisor at the International Trade Administration and congressional liaison at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In the private sector, he has served as an executive with the Boeing aerospace company and a former vice president with infrastructure consulting firm HNTB. Most recently, McMaster served as senior advisor to USDOT Secretary Sean Duffy.
