Ventura, Calif.- The City of Ventura invites the community to travel back to the 1800s during Rancho Days at Olivas Adobe Historical Park on Sunday, September 14, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This free, family-friendly celebration brings to life the rich history and heritage of Ventura's early pioneers and indigenous peoples.
Guests can enjoy an afternoon of live music, dancing, storytelling, games, and hands-on activities that capture the spirit of Rancho San Miguel, the historic property that is now Olivas Adobe Historical Park.
Event highlights include:
-
Live Mariachi Performance: The award-winning mariachi ensemble Ocho Estrella from Oxnard Union High School will showcase a vibrant performance featuring voice, guitar, trumpet, violin, guitarrón, and vihuela. Their unique style connects music, history, and Mexican cultural traditions across generations. Performances will take place at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
-
Interactive Experiences: Try your hand at rope steering, candle making, and 1800s-style farm chores, or explore the historic adobe to learn how Ventura's earliest residents lived and worked.
"Rancho Days is a chance to step into the stories of our past, experience living history, and create new memories with family and friends," said Recreation Manager Rebecca Ellis. "Our dedicated volunteers and docents plan these seasonal events to preserve local history and inspire the next generation to remember its impact."
