Senate Democrats reached a bipartisan agreement to fund vital functions at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and secure our ports of entry - and now Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and House Republicans are refusing to even hold a vote on the bill.
For weeks, Republicans and the Trump administration have refused to fund DHS, causing chaos at airports and forcing TSA agents to work without pay, all so the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) can continue to operate unchecked.
In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
"Time and again, Democrats have offered proposals to fund critical Department of Homeland Security functions, like TSA, to ensure the American public is safe and secure while refusing to give a blank check to Trump's campaign of brutality that has killed American citizens at the hands of masked federal immigration agents and betrayed our Constitution. House Republicans need to put an end to the chaos and vote on the bipartisan DHS funding bill immediately."
