Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after voting to reject the Republicans' partisan government funding bill and push for real solutions that will lower health care costs for working families.
"President Trump and Republicans in Congress have ripped health care away from millions of Americans and are threatening to raise prices on millions more who are already struggling to afford their insurance," said Senator Cortez Masto. "My Democratic colleagues and I stand ready to negotiate a bipartisan deal that keeps the government open while lowering health care costs and extending the ACA tax credits. But Republicans must come to the table."
Right now, because of Congressional Republicans, 100,000 Nevadans are expected to lose their health care coverage or are facing such extreme rises in insurance premiums (up to 17.5% on average in the individual healthcare market) that they may have to choose between coverage and putting food on the table. Without ACA tax credits, a Nevada family of four making $56,000 a year could see a premium increase of $205/month, an additional $2,460 a year. A Nevada family of four making $105,800 a year could see a premium increase of $289/month, an extra $3,468 a year.
