September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month
August 22, 2025 - September is Library Card Sign-up Month, when libraries nationwide join the American Library Association (ALA) to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.
Libraries play a crucial role in the education and development of children, offering a variety of programs to spark creativity and stimulate an interest in reading and learning. Through access to technology, media resources, and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams, and explore new passions and interests.
In celebration of National Library Card Sign-Up Month, the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library is adding special incentives to encourage community members who don't already have a library card to sign up for one. The Library will hold drawings at the end of the month for cardholders from children to adults to win prizes such as Library swag or a gift card to a local business!
The Library will also celebrate its current cardholders by entering them into a mystery prize drawing each time they use their card at the library or check out an item from Libby (previously OverDrive) throughout September! Existing cardholders can also choose to upgrade to a new library card design for free September 1 - 30. The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library will be closed for renovations from September 15 - November 16. The Library will temporarily relocate to Midland's City Hall from September 15 - November 14. Learn more at gadml.org/renovation.
