NASUWT comments on Working Lives of Teachers report

Commenting on the DfE's Working Lives of Teachers and Leaders report, Matt Wrack, General Secretary of NASUWT - The Teachers' Union, said:

"This report is further confirmation of the continuing failure to tackle excessive teacher workload, abuse and violence from pupils and management bullying in schools and colleges.

"Positive progress on this issues is not just stalling, it is going into reverse.

"The report confirms what our own data from teachers tells us - that abusive behaviour from too many pupils, rigid working conditions and the lack of a work/life balance are driving teachers out of the profession.

"Schools and colleges will not be able to retain the skilled workforce needed until teachers are provided with working conditions in which they feel safe and valued and until they feel they can do their jobs well while not simultaneously having to sacrifice their own family lives."
