The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with funding from the European Union (EU), on January 8, 2026, handed over a suite of information technology (IT) hardware and software to justice sector agencies as part of ongoing efforts to modernise Guyana's administration of justice and improve access to the courts.
The equipment handed over, including AidLiberty software and e-ticket systems, comes at a timely moment, as the number of courts continues to expand. Eighteen courts have already been earmarked for installation, with additional systems being added to recently acquired units.
EU Ambassador to Guyana Luca Pierantoni said the country's growing regional and international role positions it to contribute meaningfully to global cooperation, including through UN-supported initiatives.
While underscoring the importance of digital transition, the Ambassador cautioned that technology must remain a tool rather than an end in itself.
"In the end, people are more important. Technology is just a tool. The people using that technology are at the forefront of this change," he said, while reaffirming the EU's openness to continued collaboration with Guyana.
