Casualties and injuries reported after vessel capsizes off Torrey Pines State Beach
On Tuesday, May 5, at approximately 6:35 a.m., Del Mar lifeguards and Del Mar, Encinitas and Solana Beach fire departments and federal and state agencies responded to a report of a vessel that had capsized off north Torrey Pines State Beach.
Responders encountered multiple individuals on the beach. Three individuals were deceased and four others sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical and were transported to local hospitals for further care.
According to one of the surviving patients, there were believed to be 18 individuals aboard the vessel at the time of the incident. Eighteen life jackets were later recovered on the beach, further supporting this account.
The incident remains under investigation.
