One-day events to be held to supplement five long-term collection locations
Springfield - Illinois EPA Director James Jennings is announcing Fall Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) one-day collection events that will be held in eight communities throughout Illinois. These collection events are co-sponsored by units of local government and provide residents the opportunity to safely dispose of unused or leftover hazardous products commonly found in homes at no cost.
"Illinois residents have benefited from our Household Hazardous Waste collection events since the program's inception in 1989," said Director Jennings. "Through our many partnerships with local governments, nearly 80,000 drums of household chemicals and other hazardous products have been collected and properly disposed of, providing a safer and healthier environment."
Illinois EPA provides the following tips to safely transport household hazardous waste:
