Senate Republican Leader Roger Niello (R-Fair Oaks) assumed leadership of the California Senate Republican Caucus yesterday, succeeding Senator Brian W. Jones (R-San Diego).
Senate Republicans unanimously selected Niello as their next leader in August, with the transition taking effect on November 4, following the General Election.
"California is at a crossroads, and I am ready to lead the Senate Republicans as we work to get our state back on track," Senator Niello said. "Our Caucus is committed to restoring affordability, keeping our communities safe, and making our state a place where Californians can thrive. I am grateful to Senator Jones for his leadership, friendship, and counsel, and I look forward to building on the work he has done."
Niello brings decades of public service and experience in fiscal policy to his new leadership role.
"Roger Niello is a thoughtful, principled leader who understands the challenges facing California families, and I have every confidence in his ability to lead our Caucus forward," Senate Minority Leader-Emeritus Jones said. "Serving as Senate Minority Leader has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Together, we fought to fix California, strengthened protections for victims of human trafficking, championed tougher penalties for criminals, exposed government waste, and stood against policies that make life harder for everyday Californians. I'm proud of what we've accomplished, and I know Roger will steer California's ship in the right direction."
