Crapo, Booker Commemorate End of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Washington, D.C.--To commemorate the end of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, U.S. Senators Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) led introduction of a Senate Resolution to recognize September as National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The resolution also encourages all Americans to take part in efforts to increase early detection, improve treatment and discover more breakthroughs for the disease, which has a 99 percent survival rate if caught in the earliest stage.

"Routine health screenings contribute to early prostate cancer detection," said Senator Crapo. "Treatment is most effective when caught early. I encourage all men to discuss screening options with their health care provider and educate themselves further about early detection."

"Prostate cancer is one of the most treatable cancers when it's caught early, yet too many men aren't getting screened in time, and the toll falls especially hard on Black men, who are more likely to be diagnosed with and die from the disease," said Senator Booker. "Early detection saves lives. I urge every man to talk with his doctor about screening, and I'm grateful to Senator Crapo for partnering with me on this resolution to raise awareness and advance the research that will lead to better outcomes."

"Prostate Cancer Awareness Month serves as a vital call to action, urging men to know their risk, seek early detection, and explore the treatment options that can save their lives," said Courtney Bugler, President and CEO of ZERO Prostate Cancer. "We are incredibly grateful to Senator Crapo and Senator Booker for their unwavering dedication to this cause. Their leadership continues to drive meaningful progress in awareness, research, and support for the men and families navigating this disease. As we mark another Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we are proud to stand with them and our champions in Congress, not just this month, but every day, as we press forward in our mission to ensure no man faces prostate cancer alone."

Additional co-sponsors of the resolution include Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland).

Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men in the United States. One in eight men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetimes, and one in 44 men in the United States will die from the disease.
