AUSTIN, TX (June 22, 2026) - The Texas Restaurant Association will induct Walter "Tap" Bentz of College Station into its 2026 Hall of Honor, the Association's highest recognition for lifetime contributions to the Texas restaurant industry and the organization.

For more than 25 years, Bentz has been a dedicated leader, advocate and ambassador for Texas restaurants. A longtime member of the Texas Restaurant Association's Brazos Valley chapter, he has served at every level of the organization, including chapter president, chairman of the Texas Restaurant Foundation, TRA board member and president of the TRA.

Throughout his career, Bentz has championed workforce development, industry education and community engagement, helping strengthen the restaurant industry while creating opportunities for future hospitality professionals.

"Tap's impact on the Texas restaurant industry extends far beyond any single role or title," Emily Williams Knight, Ed.D., president and CEO of the Texas Restaurant Association, said. "For decades, he has dedicated his time, expertise and leadership to supporting restaurant operators, developing future industry leaders and advancing the mission of our association. His commitment to serving others has left a lasting mark on Texas hospitality."

Professionally, Bentz built a distinguished career spanning more than two decades in restaurant operations and franchise leadership. From 1999 to 2018, he served as managing partner of Outback Steakhouse, earning a reputation for operational excellence, team development and business growth. Following his successful tenure with Outback, he transitioned into franchise consulting and leadership roles, continuing to support restaurant operators and brands throughout Texas and beyond.

Today, Bentz serves as a regional franchise consultant for Another Broken Egg Cafe, where he continues to mentor operators, strengthen restaurant performance and share the industry knowledge he has developed throughout his career.

"What makes Tap's career so remarkable is his unwavering commitment to helping others succeed," Tony Abruscato, chief marketing officer of the Texas Restaurant Association, said. "Whether serving restaurant teams, mentoring operators or leading the association itself, he has consistently invested in the growth of people and the future of the industry. We are proud to recognize his extraordinary contributions through the Hall of Honor."

The Hall of Honor recognizes industry leaders nominated by their peers for their lasting contributions to Texas restaurants and the Association. Inductees must have at least 15 years of TRA membership, demonstrate superior business ethics and show a sustained commitment to advancing the industry and supporting fellow members.

Bentz will be formally recognized during the Texas Restaurant Awards on Sunday, July 12, at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts in San Antonio. The ceremony is held in conjunction with the Texas Restaurant Show, presented by Eat Local. Eat Often.
