Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović extended congratulations on the occasion of 21 May - Independence Day - to all citizens of Montenegro and the Montenegrin diaspora, emphasizing the historic significance of the great jubilee marking twenty years since the restoration of independence.
He stressed that this jubilee is not only a reminder of the historic decision made by one generation, but also an opportunity to remember with gratitude all those who believed in a free, civic, dignified, and European Montenegro.
Our independence was not an end in itself - it was the beginning of the journey toward building a state founded on peace, multiethnic harmony, democracy, and responsibility toward every individual, Ibrahimović stated.
Reflecting on the achievements made so far, he pointed out that Montenegro is today internationally recognized and a reliable ally, a proud member of NATO, and a country firmly advancing toward full membership in the European Union.
In that context, he emphasized that there is clear reason for pride, but also an obligation to continue building Montenegro even more decisively and persistently as a civic, prosperous, and European state.
Our European future is not merely a political goal - it is a natural expression of the values we share and the society we aspire to become, the kind of state we dreamed of while restoring its independence: fairer and safer for all our citizens, regardless of their choice on that 21 May. In the spirit of unity and faith in Montenegro, I congratulate you on Independence Day - may the years ahead bind us even more strongly together, in unity, dignity, and shared progress. See you in the European Union, Ibrahimović concluded.
