OCBC customers can now scan to make Weixin Pay payments in China, in addition to Alipay+ and UnionPay
OCBC is the only bank in Singapore that enables customers to scan and pay all merchant QR codes in mainland China.
Singapore, 9 February 2026 - From today, all OCBC Singapore customers can scan and pay Weixin Pay (WeChat Pay) merchant QR codes directly through the OCBC app. This builds on OCBC's extensive QR payment coverage, allowing customers to scan and pay across 57 destinations, including mainland China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
With this addition, OCBC customers will be able to make payments seamlessly through the OCBC app by scanning any Weixin Pay, Alipay+ and UnionPay merchant QR codes. Alipay+ and Weixin Pay dominate China's mobile payment market which makes up over 90 per cent of transactions. Now, there is no need for cash or additional payment apps. The exchange rate is competitive, with no additional fees and customers can see the rates in real-time before making the transaction.
China is the top destination for OCBC customers using the OCBC app's Scan & Pay feature overseas. Last year, 1 in 5 overseas Scan & Pay transactions on the OCBC app were made in China. As confidence in using QR payments overseas grows, OCBC customers are also increasingly using it beyond small, everyday purchases. In fact, the average value of QR payments made in China is nearly twice that of other overseas markets.
