On 17 August, the 10th Monsoon Forum brought together forecasters, technical experts and key institutions to strengthen the use of weather and climate information for better planning, preparedness and early action in the Maldives.
Through the Thayyaaru Project, the Forum is helping advance Impact-Based Forecasting and Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems. This approach goes beyond understanding what the weather will be, focusing instead on what the weather may do, who and what may be affected, and how timely action can reduce risks and impacts.
The Forum also provided a platform to strengthen coordination, exchange technical insights and support more informed decision-making across institutions.
The Thayyaaru Project is a partnership between the Ministry of Environment and the Maldives Meteorological Service, supported by the Government of China and UNDP Maldives, contributing to stronger climate resilience and disaster preparedness across the country.
