The Initial Press Release of TRC’s Diesel-electric Locomotive No. R169 Collided with a Stationary Train while Shunting at Hualien Depot.

At 14:21 on April 20, 2025, diesel-electric locomotive No. R169 at the Hualien depot of the Taiwan Railway Corporation (hereinafter referred to as TRC) was operating from track 1 to track 2 of the car wash lines. While attempting to couple with an EMU3000 New Tze-Chiang train stabled on track 2, it collided with the stationary train. There were no casualties in this occurrence.

After receiving the notification, the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) dispatched 2 investigators to TRC to collect evidence and relevant information. The TTSB identified this event as a railway occurrence following the Transportation Occurrence Investigation Act. The Investigator-In-Charge was assigned and an investigation team was launched to conduct the investigation.
