NFD Fire Investigators Classify School Fire as Incendiary

The Nashville Fire Department responded on February 13, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., to reports of a fire inside Independence Academy High School, located at 5221 Hickory Hollow Parkway.

Upon arrival, fire personnel quickly extinguished the fire and initiated an investigation to determine its origin and cause. Fire Investigators determined the fire originated in a men's restroom and was intentionally set.

Specifically, a toilet paper holder and toilet paper had been ignited.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, the fire was classified as incendiary.

School administrators reviewed surveillance footage and identified several students who were present in the restroom at the time of the incident. Those students were detained by school staff prior to the arrival of Fire Investigators.

Through interviews conducted on the day of the incident and in the days that followed, two juveniles were identified as responsible for setting the fire. Petitions charging both individuals with Aggravated Arson have been filed.

The Nashville Fire Department's Fire Investigations Division worked closely with school officials and law enforcement partners to thoroughly investigate this incident. Their work ensures accountability and reinforces the serious consequences associated with intentionally setting fires.

No injuries were reported in connection with this incident.
