Metro's Integrated Command and Communications Center (MICC) in coordination with the Montgomery County Fire and EMS Department (MCFEMS) and other first responders will conduct a full-scale emergency response exercise on Sunday, April 27, at the Grosvenor-Strathmore Station.
The exercise will occur while the station is partially closed for aerial structure work on the Red Line . As part of the closure for weekend track work, free shuttle buses will be provided to the station during Metrorail operating hours.
The MICC, Metro Transit Police, and MCFEMS, along with rail, emergency preparedness personnel, and support staff participate in the exercise designed to simulate a real-life emergency. People in the area may notice an increased number of emergency vehicles responding to the station. Please be advised this is just an exercise.
First responders and Metro staff will test their ability in a rapid response involving a simulated person struck by a train. The exercise will evaluate rescue efforts and response coordination and communication between on-scene responders, Metrorail operations staff, Metro Transit Police, and support personnel.
The exercise will begin at 7:00 a.m. and first responders and emergency vehicles should clear the station at or around 12:00 p.m.
Grosvenor-Strathmore Station will remain partially open following the exercise, with one platform closed, due to aerial structure work and no train service between Medical Center and Grosvenor.
