Lima Memorial to Provide Stroke Awareness Information at the Lima Family YMCA

Lima Memorial Health System, in partnership with the Lima Family YMCA, will be providing stroke awareness information on Friday, May, 18. In addition to the presentation, registered nurses from Lima Memorial's Emergency Center and Intensive Care Unit will be onsite to provide free blood pressure screenings. Also, registered dieticians will be available to discuss nutrition information and how it relates to stroke. "May is American Stroke Month," states Britney Sciamanda, Stroke Program Coordinator at Lima Memorial Health System. "While the statistics are alarming, we want people to know strokes are both treatable and preventable."

Stroke is the 5^th leading cause of death in the United States and the number one cause of disability. An astounding 800,000 people have a stroke every year, which attributes for 1 in 20 deaths. "Educating individuals in our community is essential to decreasing the number of strokes we see," said Britney. "More importantly, the education we will be providing will save lives."

Lima Memorial professionals will be at the Lima Family YMCA om 8 a.m. to noon. The event is open to the public, free of charge and no registration is required.
