U.S. Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) released the following statement after the Democrat shutdown, led by Senator Chuck Schumer, ended. Rep. Estes voted alongside his House Republican colleagues to fund the government on Sept. 19, but Senate Democrats kept the government closed for six weeks.
"For 43 painful days, Senate Democrats held our government hostage and demanded we give in to their radical political agenda, causing the longest government shutdown in American history," said Rep. Estes. "Tonight, I voted with my House Republican colleagues on the final passage of the funding bill. With the government back open, Congressional Republicans are ready to enact President Trump's priorities and continue delivering wins for Kansans and the American people."
