The American Battle Monuments Commission will offer a series of free guided tours this summer at Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery in Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, France, providing visitors with an opportunity to explore the site and learn more about its history and ongoing care.
Developed by site staff, the program features thematic tours designed to highlight different aspects of the cemetery, the service members commemorated there, and the work carried out by ABMC teams responsible for its maintenance and preservation. The 2026 program includes four Wednesday afternoon tours held at 3 p.m. CET over July and August.
Each session will focus on a specific theme. On July 22, the tour "Taking care of the cemetery" will introduce visitors to the work of the horticulture team. On July 29, the theme "Fighters in the back lines" will focus on personnel who supported operations beyond the front lines in World War I. On Aug. 5, the "Brothers in arms" tour will explore connections among service members. The final session, on Aug. 12, titled "Taking care of the graves," will highlight the work of the maintenance and horticulture teams.
"All of these tours are designed to help visitors better understand both the history of the site and the ongoing work required to maintain it," said Danielle Millien, superintendent of Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery. "They offer an opportunity to connect with the stories honored here while also learning about the teams who care for the cemetery every day."
All tours begin at 3 p.m. CET and depart from the central fountain within the cemetery. Attendance is free and open to the public, and no reservation is required.
Located in northeastern France, Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery is the largest American military cemetery in Europe from World War I. The guided tour program provides visitors with additional context on the site and the individuals commemorated there, as well as insight into the daily work required to preserve it.
