Elfreth Releases 2025 Defense Report

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth (MD-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, released her 2025 Defense Report. In her first year in Congress and serving on the Committee, Elfreth set out to visit every major military installation in Maryland. The report presents reflections from each installation tour, along with the wins secured in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and outlines next steps she plans to take in the coming years.

"I had the privilege of seeing first-hand the exquisite and unique capabilities Maryland installations, servicemembers, and civilian DoD employees provide to our collective national security. I also learned something true of most things in our state: these federal investments didn't happen by accident; they were the result of strategic focus and the collective work of Team Maryland," said Congresswoman Elfreth."As the only Marylander in the House or the Senate serving on a committee focused explicitly on national security and defense issues, I am committed to building upon their distinguished legacy and continuing to deliver wins on behalf of our servicemembers, our state, and our nation."

Over the course of the year, Elfreth visited 11 military installations in Maryland, ranging from the U.S. Naval Academy in the Third District to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. At each installation, Elfreth met with officers to discuss the base's larger needs and requests. Elfreth also sat down with enlisted personnel and reservists, often without their supervisors, to learn about their quality of life and understand the opportunities and challenges they faced around the base. Then, she spoke with the alliances of community and business leaders to understand their priorities for the installations and the surrounding areas.

Additionally, throughout her tour, Elfreth noticed recurring themes in her conversations, including base infrastructure and resilience, housing, child care, and health care, all of which were areas for improvement. Many of these challenges and opportunities are reflected in the wins she secured in her first NDAAas a direct result of these conversations. These central themes will also guide Elfreth's next steps and priorities that she will continue to champion in the coming years and NDAAs ahead.
