USDA Announces Distance Learning Telemedicine Grant with Claiborne County Schools

(Tazewell, Tenn., February 27, 2026) - U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Tennessee State Director Patrick Jaynes today announced a $982,670 Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant with Claiborne County Board of Education. This investment in modern distance learning technology will expand educational opportunities for rural students in Claiborne County.

The project will deliver enhanced instruction in dual-credit coursework, including math, science, English, art, and foreign language, and career and technical education, benefiting an estimated 3,957 rural students.

"Access to high-quality education should not depend on a student's zip code," said Jaynes. "This investment reflects the commitment of President Trump and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins to ensure students in Claiborne County have the same opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed as students in more urban areas."

This funding is part of USDA's Distance Learning and Telemedicine Program, which helps rural communities use advanced telecommunications to connect to education, training, and medical services.
