Public Invited to "A" Street Project Open House July 17

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) invites the public to a design open house on Thursday, July 17, regarding planned improvements to "A" Street between Sixth and 17th streets. The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Everett Elementary School Gymnasium, Door 4, 1123 "C" St.

The proposed project would improve "A" Street between Sixth and 17th streets by reconstructing the corridor to include two through lanes and a middle turn lane. Work would include replacing the traffic signal at the 17th Street intersection and constructing a single-lane roundabout at 13th Street. The proposed design includes a sidepath, a pedestrian and bicycle facility wider than a standard sidewalk on the north side of "A" Street from Fourth Street to 11th Street. The project would also remove private walking paths located between the curb and sidewalk. All improvements would comply with Federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

This project would enhance the condition of the street, enhance safety and technology, and increase traffic capacity to better accommodate current and future travel demands. The need for these improvements is based on roadway conditions, crash history, and aging traffic signal infrastructure.

The proposed improvement project is estimated to cost $6,586,000. Construction funding would come from a combination of local and federal funding sources. Construction could begin as early as winter of 2026 and be completed by the fall of 2027.

Residents are invited to attend and present relevant comments and questions. Design information will be displayed and personnel from the City of Lincoln and the design team will be present to answer questions and receive comments.
