For more than a decade, Nena Horner has built her career at TidalHealth by embracing new opportunities, building relationships and becoming a trusted resource for team members across the organization. She first joined TidalHealth looking for an opportunity to make a difference while building a meaningful career.
Through each role, Horner found opportunities to learn new skills, take on new challenges and grow both personally and professionally.
Many of those opportunities required Horner to step into unfamiliar territory and learn along the way. Those experiences taught her to stay curious, ask questions and seek out the people and resources that could help. They also gave her the confidence to take on new challenges without needing to have every answer on day one.
The support Horner received throughout her own career has shaped the way she supports others today. Known across TidalHealth as someone team members can turn to for answers or guidance, she is always willing to share what she has learned and help others find solutions."I believe we all succeed when we help each other succeed," Horner said. "Sharing knowledge helps build confidence in others and creates a stronger team."
That focus on connection extends beyond her everyday responsibilities. Over the years, Horner has helped organize Hospital Week, Advanced Practice Provider Week, holiday events and other celebrations that bring team members together. She believes taking time to celebrate gives people a chance to connect, create memories and feel recognized for the work they do.
In 2025, Horner was named Employee of the Year, an honor that reflected the impact she has made through both her work and her willingness to help others. While proud of the recognition, she considers what her role as provider onboarding coordinator has become one of her greatest accomplishments. The position allows her to continually meet new people, build relationships and do work she genuinely enjoys.
Her experiences have also shaped how she thinks about leadership."I've learned that leadership isn't about titles. It's about showing up consistently and being dependable," Horner said. "Kindness and integrity go a long way."
For team members beginning their own journeys at TidalHealth, Horner encourages them to be open to new opportunities, even when they may feel intimidating. She also recommends getting involved by volunteering, joining committees and participating in activities that provide opportunities to meet people from across the organization.
"Any opportunity to meet more people who work at TidalHealth is a good opportunity," Horner said.
After more than a decade at TidalHealth, Horner's journey shows how a willingness to learn, help others and build meaningful connections can create opportunities for continued growth.
