The situation in Gaza is beyond alarming. Starvation is spreading, humanitarian access is being obstructed, and civilians, including children, are being killed while trying to reach food and aid.
Grave and systematic violations of international humanitarian law and fundamental rights are taking place before our eyes. The European Union cannot remain silent in the face of this suffering.
The Party of European Socialists (PES) stands firm in its commitment to human rights, international law and the protection of civilians.
PES President Stefan Löfven stressed that:
"Europe's credibility is on the line. We cannot uphold human rights selectively. That is why I call for the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement until there is full respect for international law."
The EU's relationship with third countries must be rooted in the respect for human rights and democratic principles, as clearly established in Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. These principles are not optional - they are the foundation of our external action.
We also urge the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, to act with the urgency and clarity this moment demands.
We must act for human dignity, for peace, for justice.
