Today, in a victory for Utah voters, a Utah judge chose a fair and impartial congressional map instead of the rigged map that Utah Republicans passed last month.
Following the current Utah congressional map getting struck down by the Court for its blatant gerrymander, Utah Republicans attempted to submit another gerrymandered map. Voters and nonprofit groups also submitted fair maps for the judge to consider, and today, Plaintiff Map 1 was selected.
Today's decision is a victory for democracy. Now, as Utah Republicans promise to appeal the decision and attempt to create a ballot initiative that would destroy the map-drawing commission completely, Democrats will continue to stand in their way - for democracy and for the rights of Utahns to have their voices heard across the state.
DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
"The DNC applauds the decision to choose a fair, impartial map that reflects the diversity and ideological makeup of the state. Utah Republicans gerrymandered the maps because they knew they were losing power in the state. Republicans doubled down when they chose to submit another gerrymandered map, but today, they were once again thwarted by impartial Courts. Democrats will continue to fight for fair maps in Utah, regardless of what Donald Trump and Utah Republicans try next. Every seat counts, and Democrats everywhere are fired up and ready to take back the House in the midterms in 2026."
