Medical Center, East Campus receive national recognition for excellence in diabetes care

Loma Linda University Medical Center and Loma Linda University Medical Center East Campus have been named a Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes. The selection came from The Leapfrog Group in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association, and honors hospitals that provide safe, high-quality care for patients with diabetes. The Medical Center and East Campus join just 33 hospitals nationwide to receive this designation in 2025.

"While diabetes often has devastating effects on a person's health, patients seeking care at the Medical Center and East Campus will find a team that is passionate about understanding and safely managing each person's unique diabetes condition," said Anthony Hilliard, MD, FACC, chief executive officer of Loma Linda University Health Hospitals. "We are honored to receive this significant recognition that affirms our commitment to providing comprehensive, compassionate care for individuals with diabetes."

Now in its second year, this Leapfrog/ADA recognition program evaluates how hospitals provide the tailored care patients with diabetes require from admission to discharge. In the past two years, diabetes educators have supported more than 2,600 inpatients with personalized, focused care, including supporting insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring, offering individualized insulin and nutrition management, and providing comprehensive discharge planning. High-risk patients also benefit from specialized attention from endocrinology providers and diabetes educators.

Loma Linda University Health launched its Adult Diabetes Treatment Center in 1985. The center has been instrumental in inpatient and outpatient diabetes education and care, helping the organization meet the ADA's national standards for excellence in diabetes care. Team members offer tailored diabetes education and consultation, supporting patients, frontline caregivers, and frontline nursing staff with the goal of optimizing diabetes management.
