LACEY, Wash. - The Utilities and Transportation Commission is holding a public comment hearing on Jan. 13, 2026, to discuss Puget Sound Pilots' (PSP) proposed rate increase.

BACKGROUND

The state legislature granted the commission authority to regulate rates charged by marine pilotage companies in 2018. The most recent tariff to increase rates was filed with the commission in 2022. PSP recently filed a tariff to increase rates to cover operating costs.

About the UTC

The UTC regulates the rates and services of investor-owned electric utilities, telecommunications companies, natural gas and water companies, solid waste collection companies, household-goods movers and passenger transportation companies, commercial ferries, pipeline companies, marine pilotage, and a low-level radioactive waste repository. The commission does not regulate the rates of broadband services, cellular, cable, or Internet service.
