The University of Toledo will celebrate its new leader with the inauguration of UToledo's 19th President James Holloway on Thursday, Oct. 16.

The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a ceremonial procession of university leaders, faculty and students, as well as representatives from other universities, who will walk with Holloway from the Thompson Student Union to Savage Arena for the ceremony, which will begin at 3 p.m.

The Inauguration ceremony for UToledo's 19th President James Holloway will take place at 3 p.m. Oct. 16 in Savage Arena.

The inauguration ceremony includes the official installation of the president and an inauguration address in which Holloway will share his vision for UToledo's next chapter in its proud history.

The ceremony will be followed by a reception in the arena's West Concourse.

The Inauguration event is free and open to the public. For those who cannot attend in person, it will be streamed at video.utoledo.edu.

In addition to the inauguration ceremony, UToledo will host several events to celebrate the institution's new president.

The campus community will gather at barbecues on each campus, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, on Health Science Campus in the Four Seasons Bistro and courtyard, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, on Main Campus on Centennial Mall.

Also on Wednesday, the UToledo Graduate Programs Fair will provide an opportunity for current undergraduate students to learn more about UToledo's graduate programs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Carlson Library on Main Campus.

The public is invited to a panel discussion about both the optimism and concerns surrounding artificial intelligence with the return of Perspectives, the thought leadership series presented by UToledo and The Blade.

In the first event of the 2025-26 academic year, the conversation titled "Perspectives: The Impact and Implications of Artificial Intelligence" will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Doermann Theatre.

Selected following an extensive national search, Holloway began his tenure as UToledo's president July 15, 2025.

A nuclear engineer, Holloway came to UToledo from the University of New Mexico, where he served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs for the last six years.

Prior to that, Holloway served three decades at the University of Michigan as a professor and researcher and in leadership roles that included vice provost for global engagement and interdisciplinary academic affairs, vice provost for global and engaged education, and associate dean for undergraduate education in the College of Engineering.
