Rep. Roy Votes for Budget Resolution to Advance SAVE America Act Through Reconciliation

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Chip Roy (TX-21) issued the following statement after voting for H. Con. Res. 113, the budget resolution required to unlock the reconciliation process.

"While far from perfect, I voted in favor of this budget resolution because it is an important step in getting my SAVE America Act passed by the Senate.

As the Senate takes up this legislation, there can be no compromise on election integrity. The full SAVE America Act must be included as a mandatory requirement for every state-not watered down into an optional policy incentivized through federal funding. Election security should not depend on whether states choose to participate, and my votes for future measures will fully depend on this.

Just as importantly, Congress cannot continue adding to our fiscal crisis without accountability. I regret that this $90 billion budget resolution is not fully paid for. With our national debt approaching $40 trillion, the Senate should set its instructions to pay for it, and if not, the House leadership should commit now that any future funding legislation will fully offset the cost of this bill in real terms-dollar for dollar and year for year.

Further, because much of the spending in this legislation is dedicated to providing our military with much-needed resources, we must take a firm position on the conflict with Iran. If we are to fund this effort, it must be backed by a clear mission and full commitment-not half-hearted acquiescence.

I am swallowing this unpaid-for bill to try to pass election integrity and ensure our military heroes have the tools they need, but Washington's addiction to deficit spending and making war without full ownership must end for the benefit of our nation's posterity," said Rep. Roy.
