Metro Public Health Department to offer free flu shots ahead of October 6 Metro Council meeting

The Metro Public Health Department (MPHD) will return to offer free flu vaccines ahead of the Metro Council meeting on Tuesday, October 6. The annual collaboration with the Metro Council Office brings flu shots to the Historic Courthouse and City Hall at no cost. Flu shots will be available at the on the second-floor mezzanine from 3pm to 6:30pm. No appointments are needed.

"Every year the flu makes its presence known, and we know getting your flu shot is a great way to mitigate its effects," said Dr. Sanmi Areola, Director of Health at the Metro Public Health Department. "By ensuring everyone in the community can access a flu shot, we hope to reduce the spread of flu and move us all toward a healthier Nashville."

All those six months of age and older are welcome to receive a free flu shot. Insurance or other coverage is not required to receive a flu shot at the pop-up clinic. This year's flu shot is formulated to protect against three separate flu strains. MPHD offered flu shots ahead of the Metro Council meeting on October 9, 2025, administering 68 flu shots.

"The Council is pleased to partner with MPHD again to co-host our annual pop-up to help #FightFlu in Nashville," said Vice Mayor Angie E. Henderson. "Vaccine hesitancy is sadly at an all-time high in the United States, so it is especially important for local elected officials to demonstrate the importance of vaccination for public health. I hope folks attending our meetings or who live and work downtown will join us on October 6 and cross this important task off their list before cold weather sets in."

MPHD has also begun administering flu shots in preventive health clinics ahead of the 2026-2027 flu season. A flu shot is recommended for anyone ages six months and older. Appointments can be made to get a flu vaccine Monday through Friday at the following clinics:

TennCare and Medicare Part B insurance are accepted and fully cover the fee. If this is the way you will be accessing your flu shot, remember to bring your Medicare Part B insurance card. The fee for flu vaccine for adults with private insurance is $40, and a sliding scale is available for those who qualify. For those in need of the high-dose flu vaccine, the cost is $85, with a sliding scale available.

For those unable to make it to October 6th flu shot availability, MPHD will also be offering free flu shots at the annual Fight Flu Day event on October 20th. Flu shots will be available at several locations throughout Fight Flu Day. More information about Fight Flu Day will be shared at a later date. After October 20th, flu shots will be available free of charge in MPHD clinics throughout the rest of flu season.
