BOZEMAN - Montana State University will mark the anniversary of its founding on Feb. 16, 1893, with several events next month celebrating faculty, students and community.
Nineteen outstanding faculty receiving Founders Day Faculty Awards will be recognized at an annual awards ceremony set for Tuesday, Feb. 17, in Norm Asbjornson Hall. The ceremony honoring faculty research, teaching, outreach and creative projects will begin at 9 a.m. in Inspiration Hall. The awards ceremony is free and open to the public.
Then, at noon that day, 40 students will be celebrated during the 44th annual Founders Day Student Awards. Each honored student will also select a faculty or staff mentor to be recognized alongside them at the event.
Tuesday's Founders Day events will conclude with a lecture given by Yves Idzerda as the second installment of this year's Provost's Distinguished Lecturer Series. Idzerda will deliver "Quantum Materials and What Comes Next" at 7 p.m. in the Hager Auditorium at the Museum of the Rockies. The free, public lecture will be followed by a reception at 8 p.m.
On Wednesday, Feb. 18, MSU's International Food Bazaar, an event popular with both students and the wider community, will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the university's Rendezvous Dining Hall and Miller Dining Commons. The event features food from around the globe and is open to the public with paid admission. Adult admission is $17 for entry to one dining facility or $25 for both facilities. Admission for children ages 5-13 is $15; children up to age 4 are admitted free.
