Soundwall installation project along northbound I-75 begins Friday, April 10, in Troy

Fast facts:

  • A two-year project starts April 10 on a 2.7-mile section of northbound I-75 to install two soundwalls from Wattles Road to Coolidge Highway.
  • Prep work requires lane closures to install temporary barriers and a traffic shift.
  • During the project, three northbound lanes will be open during peak travel times.

TROY, Mich. - Weather permitting, contracting crews will begin installing temporary barriers and a traffic shift along northbound I-75 from Wattles Road to Coolidge Highway on Friday, April 10. The work is the initial stage of a two-year project to install two soundwalls in the city of Troy. Soundwalls will be located from Wattles Road to Long Lake Road, and from Crooks Road to Coolidge Highway.

To protect workers and the motoring public from heavy equipment and necessary excavation work, crews will place temporary barriers to close the right lane along a 2.7-mile stretch. Multiple lane closures will be restricted to off-peak hours on weekdays and at all times on weekends until the new traffic configuration is complete.

During soundwall construction, a traffic shift will allow three travel lanes through the work zone. The occupancy requirements for the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane will be suspended from Big Beaver Road to Coolidge Highway. Northbound I-75 access to the Crooks Road/Corporate Drive interchange will be maintained.

Along with building two soundwalls, the project also includes added safety measures such as guardrail installation, shoulder improvements and drainage realignment to protect infrastructure and adjacent neighborhoods.

Based on economic modeling, this $14.5 million investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 123 jobs.
