Bilirakis Condemns Antisemitic Behavior Following Jerusalem Day Event, Urges Leaders to Stand Firm Against Hate

As Chairman of the International Religious Freedom Caucus, Congressman Gus Bilirakis has long been a steadfast supporter of Israel and the Jewish community. In recent remarks delivered at a Washington, DC forum held in conjunction with Jerusalem Day, Bilirakis reiterated his position that Israel remains America's strongest ally in the Middle East, sharing democratic values and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the United States in the face of threats to freedom, security, and human dignity. Congressman Bilirakis has also been unwavering in his belief that Americans have a moral obligation to confront and condemn antisemitism wherever it appears.

"At a time when antisemitism is rising at alarming levels both here at home and around the world, it is more important than ever that leaders speak clearly and act decisively against hatred in all its forms. Silence in the face of intolerance only emboldens those who seek to divide communities, intimidate Jewish Americans, and undermine the values of freedom, tolerance, and mutual respect that define our nation," said Congressman Gus Bilirakis. "I was proud to participate in a Jerusalem Day event in Washington, D.C., celebrating the enduring bond between the United States and Israel and reaffirming our shared commitment to religious freedom and human dignity. At the same time, we must acknowledge the troubling reality that antisemitic rhetoric continues to gain visibility in public discourse. Recent decisions to provide a platform to individuals who have repeatedly promoted antisemitic conspiracy theories and engaged in hateful rhetoric are deeply disappointing and concerning. While some may claim remorse for past conduct, there can be no ambiguity when it comes to condemning antisemitism. There is simply no place for this type of language or behavior in civil society. Community leaders, businesses, and public officials should carefully consider the message that is sent when individuals with a documented history of promoting intolerance are given prominent platforms - particularly at events supported by taxpayer dollars. We must be clear and consistent in communicating that antisemitism has no place in our communities and that hateful speech should never be normalized, excused, or ignored. I once again urge local leaders throughout the Tampa Bay region and across the nation to stand strong against antisemitism and all forms of religious hatred. We must continue to support our Jewish neighbors, defend Israel's right to exist and defend itself, and ensure that future generations understand the dangers of prejudice, extremism, and bigotry. Now is the time for moral clarity. We must reject antisemitism wherever it appears, stand with our strongest ally, Israel, and reaffirm our commitment to the principles of freedom, dignity, and respect for all people."
