Wakild presents at National College in Mexico

Emily Wakild, the Cecil D. Andrus Endowed Chair for the Environment and Public Lands and professor of history, presented to El Colegio Nacional (National College) in Mexico on Nov. 11, 2025.

Invited by Julia Carabias, Mexico's first Secretary of the Environment (1994-2000), the evening included a conversation about the past, present and future of Mexico's protected areas, including current work towards the goals of 30×30 - the effort to conserve 30% of the national territory by 2030.

Wakild also gave academic presentations at two universities, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico, the oldest and largest university in the Americas, and at Iberoamericana, an elite private university renown for its experiential learning programs.

El Colegio Nacional is an honorary academy with a strictly limited membership. It was created by presidential decree in 1943 in order to bring together the foremost artists and scientists, who are periodically invited to deliver lectures and seminars in their respective area of specialty.
