Nurture Nature at Carrollton's Earth Day Celebration

Learn how to love the planet at the City of Carrollton's Earth Day Celebration featuring free activities, crafts, giveaways, and demonstrations on Saturday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Josey Ranch Lake Library (1700 Keller Springs Road).

Attendees can visit booths to learn about water conservation, plant science, energy efficiency, meteorology, geology, and the night sky, and participate in hands-on activities and crafts. Kids can learn more about the Junior Ranger and Junior Gardeners Programs to continue appreciating the natural world year-round. Carrollton Animal Services will also join in the fun with opportunities to meet live animal ambassadors.

The event will also feature community partners, such as Texas Master Naturalists, offering information about natural areas and insect crafts. Find out how to protect native species with conservation advocacy groups Texas Native Cats and Song Dog Watch. The Denton County Master Gardener Association will offer hands-on education about gardening and composting, complete with live worms. Lastly, learn about recycling with the City's solid waste provider Republic Services and enjoy a touch-a-truck experience.

Don't miss the chance to see recyclable materials repurposed into masterpieces for the annual Recycle Art Contest. Attendees will vote for the contest winners onsite, day-of. Interested in participating? Students, K-12, enrolled in any Carrollton school, plus those who are homeschooled or in private school who reside in City limits, have until Friday, April 10 to register for the contest and have a chance to win fun prizes.

The celebration event will be sensory friendly with a quiet space available inside the Library. Children and adults can take a break with coloring, sensory toys, and noise-cancelling headphones.

Earth Day is an annual event held every April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First organized in 1970, the celebration now includes a wide range of events and activities coordinated globally. Join Carrollton in working together to make the planet a cleaner, more sustainable place for future generations, starting in the community's very own backyard.
