AUC Chairperson received Advisor to PM for Public Health Affairs of Qatar

H.E. Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Public Health Affairs of the State of Qatar & candidate of the State of Qatar for the position of Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), was received today by H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission.

Dr. Al Kuwari took the opportunity to presen her vision & priorities for the WHO & exchanged views with the Chairperson on the organisation's role in addressing global health challenges, strengthening health systems & responding to health emergencies. She expressed her appreciation for the AU's leadership in advancing health security on the continent & welcomed the Chairperson's participation in the 76th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa in Addis Ababa.

In this context, she agreed with Chairperson Youssouf importance of strengthening Africa's efforts towards greater health sovereignty and resilience.

The Chairperson expressed appreciation for the State of Qatar's important role in global development and its longstanding engagement in support of international health and development priorities. He also acknowledged Dr. Al Kuwari's extensive experience in the health sector, noting that her expertise would be an asset in contributing to the continued advancement of the WHO's mandate.

The Chairperson further underscored the strategic partnership between the African Union Commission and the WHO and stressed the importance of further strengthening this cooperation in support of Africa's health priorities.

The Chairperson wished Dr. Al Kuwari well in her candidacy and conveyed his best wishes for a successful campaign.
