PPB Responds to Protest Activity in Northeast Portland

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 3:30 p.m., officers from the Portland Police Bureau's North Precinct responded to calls of a disturbance in the area of the Northeast 24^th Avenue and Northeast Broadway Street. Two groups of people with opposing views were causing a disturbance and were reported to be pepper spraying each other. Officers used de-escalation techniques to encourage lawful behavior. The two groups eventually separated.

Soon after, one of the large groups entered a local grocery store causing a disturbance. Officers from both Central Precinct and East Precinct were called to assist North officers in clearing the store at the request of management. Vandalism was reported and officers on the scene found broken windows. The crowd was dispersed.

A short time later, officers were called back to the grocery store to clear out a large group that had gathered in the parking lot. Officers arrested one person who was wanted in connection to the theft of an iPhone during a protest in late August (case # 26-246804).
