Tuberville Introduces Bill to Prevent Illegals from Receiving Federal Student Loans

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) introduced the FAFSA Verification Act, which ensures the Department of Education has clear authority to verify the identities of everyone who applies for federal student loans through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The legislation specifically ensures that all federal loan applicants complete background checks, provide Social Security numbers, and are American citizens. The House companion to this legislation recently passed out of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

"As we've seen over the past few months in Minnesota, illegals have been treating American taxpayers like their personal ATMs," Sen. Tuberville said. "Federal education loans should go to Americans, not illegals. This is just common sense. I look forward to working with my colleagues to eradicate fraud in federal student loans and to put American students first."
