On July 16, 2026, at approximately 10:48 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of a traffic crash on I-25 between Tejon Street and Cimarron Street. Preliminary investigation revealed a motorcycle was northbound on I-25 and failed to negotiate the curve, striking the center median and then traveled into the southbound lanes. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the nature of the injuries, the Major Crash Team was notified and responded to lead the investigation. Speed is being investigated as a possible factor.
On July 17, 2026, CSPD was notified by the El Paso County Coroner's Office that the deceased rider had been positively identified as 26-year-old Denzel Uylett.
This incident marks the 34th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time last year, the city experienced 30 traffic fatalities. Over the past 365 days, there have been 57 traffic-related fatalities within the city.
