After Successful Tour in Pennsylvania, NAN Leaders to Engage Students at Two of Nation's Most Storied Historically Black Institutions
New York, NY - Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), today announced the organization's Ascend HBCU Tour will continue later this week, as members of this historic partnership will visit Morgan State and Howard Universities. The stop in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area comes after a successful tour of Philadelphia earlier this month.
"Since the launch of this tour, we have seen the White House ramp up its attacks on Americans to a degree that is as worse as what we saw at the height of the civil rights movement," said Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of NAN. "It is therefore essential that we engage with and activate students in and around our nation's capital. In the weeks ahead, we will continue to visit these institutions as the stakes continue to rise."
The Ascend HBCU Tour is a national leadership and empowerment initiative developed through a historic partnership between National Action Network and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Led by Rev. Cassius L. Rudolph, Special Assistant to Rev. Sharpton and Tour Director, the partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on January 10, 2026.
The Ascend HBCU tour comes as the nation prepares for the crucial 2026 Midterm Elections, in which these very issues will be on the ballot. Such an election will serve as a check on the ongoing federal actions to erase diversity, equity, and inclusion; send ICE and federal law enforcement into federal cities; and undo hard-won laws dating back to the Civil Rights Movement.
