WASHINGTON - Today, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) is pressing his Democratic colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee to push for ICE accountability through the appropriations process. In response to the shooting in Minnesota that killed U.S. citizen Renee Nicole Good and months of ICE harassment in Santa Ana, Correa is asking for concrete policies that hold ICE accountable.

"In light of yesterday's tragic murder in Minneapolis and the increasing death and violence in Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations against immigrants and U.S. citizens alike, I demand the following safeguards be included in the FY26 Homeland Security appropriations package to ensure due process and public safety," Correa wrote in a letter to Homeland Security appropriators.

In his letter, Correa is demanding stricter policies to:

  1. Mandate compliance with federal regulations for immigration personnel to identify themselves when carrying out arrests.

  2. Prohibit the use of face coverings by federal agents conducting immigration enforcement activity.

  3. Require body-worn cameras for all agents conducting enforcement activities.

  4. Require a report to Congress within 30 days detailing what training new agents have received before being placed in the field.

"While we await a full and thorough investigation, these safeguards should be the bare minimum and must immediately be put in place to ensure the safety of the American public-both citizens and noncitizens alike," he added.
