Every year, Texas Lutheran University presents the Distinguished Alumni Award to honor a graduate who has made significant impacts professionally, personally, and civically. This spring, the university presented the award to Dave Sather '89.
Sather is a Certified Financial Planner and CEO of the Sather Financial Group, Inc., a "fee-only" strategic planning and investment management firm managing more than $2.2 billion in assets. The firm is ranked as the fourth largest headquartered in Texas by Financial Advisor Magazine and ranks as a CNBC Top 100 firm in the nation. The firm's investment team is composed largely of TLU alumni and consistently provides internships to TLLU students.
Sather is the founder of the university's award-winning financial analysis and portfolio management program, Bulldog Investment Company. BIC teaches students of all majors how to research, analyze, and value companies, and participants oversee a $2.2 million portfolio. Sather also created the Big Dog Endowment program, designed to teach effective altruism and the business of philanthropy.
At Texas Lutheran, Sather is a member of the Board of Regents, chairing the board's Investment Committee, and serves as an ex-officio member of the Business Department's Advisory Council. In addition to teaching, he regularly lectures and presents for international investment conferences and writes a column for several newspapers.
He is married to fellow TLU alum Dr. Carol Klages '89.
